Patient Process
What to Expect Before, During & After Your Care
Your Surgical Journey, Step by Step
Whether you're seeing me for a consultation or preparing for surgery, it's natural to have questions about what comes next. Here's an overview of the process, from referrals to recovery, so you know exactly what to expect. You’ll also find printable forms and helpful documents to guide you through your care.
A Step-by-Step Process
-
To book an appointment, you’ll need a referral from your GP, specialist, or another healthcare provider.
-
Once we receive your referral, my team will contact you to schedule a time. We’ll explain any fees and answer your questions.
-
We’ll meet in person to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any relevant scans or test results. I’ll take the time to explain your diagnosis and treatment options.
-
If surgery is required, we’ll walk through the recommended procedure, expected outcomes, potential risks, and what your recovery will involve.
-
Your surgery will take place at one of the hospitals I operate in, either public or private. The team will guide you through pre-operative preparation.
-
We’ll monitor your recovery and arrange follow-up appointments to ensure healing is on track and any concerns are addressed.
Uninsured vs Insured Care
Whether you are an uninsured or insured patient, you’ll receive high-quality, tailored care.
Uninsured
Dr Elsabagh is happy to see uninsured patients, however please keep in mind that they need to pay/self-fund the fees for the surgery, anaesthetists and hospital .
Insured
Patients may incur some out-of-pocket expenses, depending on your insurance. This can be discussed with Dr Elsabagh during the consultation.
Fees & Rebates
Out-of-pocket fees vary depending on your insurance cover and the procedure.
We’ll provide a detailed estimate in advance and explain any Medicare or private health rebates you're eligible for.
